Powerful 12-amp System Handles the Toughest Turf When it comes to power, the Earthwise 12-amp Electric Lawnmower has plenty of it to go around. The powerful 12-amp system delivers consistent performance and eliminates tricky pull-starts and noisy operation, so you can have all the performance of a gas-powered mower without any of the hassles. And not only is this mower powerful, but it's also a zero-emissions tool, so you can get the job done while supporting the environment.Designed to Save You Time and Effort over the Long Term The wide 20-inch cutting path and heavy-duty steel mower deck ensure efficient, long-lasting performance. With wide 20-inch coverage, your lawn will require fewer passes, which will save you both time and effort. Navigating tough, uneven terrain is made easy by the composite seven-inch front wheels and eight-inch rear wheels that feature ball bearings for better maneuverability and longer life. And the V-handle with cushion grip offers greater control over tough terrain and provides comfort. A nice bonus, the handle folds down to make storing your lawnmower easy. Single-lever Height Control for Easier Adjustments Instead of having to adjust each wheel when changing the height of the mower blade, the Earthwise 50120 Electric Mower features a single-lever height control system that makes it easier than ever to adjust the height of the cut. You can choose between seven height positions, ranging from 1-1/2 to four inches. Single-lever height control is just one feature that makes the 50120 so easy to use. Other ease-of-use features include a handle-mounted safety-blade control, an easy on/off mulch plug for mulching, and a special cord hook for managing the power cord during operation. Additionally, no tools are required for assembly. Simply hand-tighten several components and you're ready to go! Innovative 3-in-1 Design for Added Versatility Outperforming other mowers, the Earthwise 50120 Electric Lawnmower is three mowers in one, functioning as a mulching mower, a side discharge mower, and a rear bag mower. As your lawn changes throughout the spring, summer, and fall, the 50120 will adapt to your yard's varied needs. You can mulch your grass in the spring to help thicken the lawn, or you can use the bag to clear leaves and debris in the fall--the choice is yours! The Earthwise 50120 weighs 60 pounds, and it is backed by a two-year limited warranty from the manufacturer. It's ok, not great... September 2, 2010 Curt Mader (Madison, WI) I have used this lawnmower for almost 2 growing seasons now and have had a few problems with it. 1) I have needed to have 2 different warranty repairs done on this mower. After about a year the plastic handle that turns the mower on/off broke. I have a feeling that it will break again... A couple of months after that the motor actually burned out. The parent corporation which approves the warranty repairs tends to be slow to respond to the repair shop. 2) If you have objects in your yard like trees then this mower is a pain because you constantly have to work around the objects making sure that the cord isn't getting wrapped around or stuck on things. 3) I have tried sharpening the blade and replacing the blade with a brand new one but the mower still seems to miss cutting a thin strip of grass on every pass... 4) I also have had problems with the back flap...I ended up tearing most of it off because it kept getting chopped up by the blade when I would pull the mower backwards... I really wish I could recommend this mower but the problems that I have had with it far outweigh the benefits. I have a feeling that once the warranty has lapsed something else will go wrong and I will just end up replacing this mower with something else... I will still likely stick with a corded electric lawnmower just not this brand....
Great Mower for the Price September 1, 2010 Lee from Philly I've used this mower about four times so far and it does what I expect of a mower: it cuts the grass. I am not any type of lawn expert, and my last mower was a manual reel model, so my expectations were low. It is a big step up for me and a great price. The only downside is the cord, which is a real pain, but I can live with it.
Pretty good for what I need it to do. August 31, 2010 verucht When it arrived, I was surprised at how heavy it was. Not that I have any reason to expect it to be light, I was just surprised. Assembly was quick and easy, way easier than assembling some Ikea furniture. I bought 50' and 25' long 12 gauge extension cords which work for my yard with the way my outside outlets are situated. As a side note, using my electric weed whacker with the heavy gauge cords made it seem like it was twice as powerful. As noted in other reviews the off gassing of the thing stinks, bad. I am not a fan of the new plastic smell so I probably did notice it more than others would. Also, as mentioned in other reviews, the stench kind of makes a mockery of the whole "clean air" premise on the box. Anyway, it's a lawnmower that's meant to be outside or in the garage so who really cares what it smells like. Soon enough it was all smelling like newly cut grass. So far I've used it four times and it does what a lawnmower should do. I use the mulching plug and it works pretty well. I have a nice (horrible) mix of weeds and grass and uneven surfaces to work with in the yard and a corner lot's worth of boulevard weeds to tackle. In an effort to make it a fair fight (these are some superbad weeds) I used the whacker to cut it down to a reasonable level before hitting it with the mower. I could hear the motor slowing a little bit when it was going through the rough stuff but as long as I went slow it was fine. For the regular grass/weed mix that is the rest of my yard it went through it with no problem whatsoever. I have a lot of trees in my yard so it does take minimal planning with the cord but overall it's no big deal. Just like the instructions say, start from the area where the cord plugs in and go from there. The only time I was irritated with the cord was when I was trying to do ignore that useful bit of information. It also isn't that difficult to just shut it off wait, move it over the cord and start it back up again. For the money this is a worthwhile purchase. I tried to keep it real with a reel mower but my yard has way too many non grass things growing in it to have that work. I needed something that would take down the random tall stuff that the reel mower would just go over and not cut. This does that. The only thing I can really find fault with is what I would consider a design flaw of sorts. Since it was brand new and all I decided to flip it on it's side to clean out any grass that had collected underneath (it was slightly dampish my first go) and noticed that there is a nice crevice near the back left wheel that is a magnet for collecting clippings, and it in that crevice is a bolt. I won't be surprised if that bold becomes invisible on a lot of this model. In my mind it doesn't make sense to have a crevice in a place that will clearly just suck in grass clippings but I'm no lawn mower designer. We'll see if it holds up for the long term but so far so good.
electric lawnmower August 28, 2010 consumer Product cuts well. The power seems a bit less than my very old electric mower. It has all the options I could ever want-grass catcher and mulching plug. Very good value and free shipping!
Love this Mower August 23, 2010 M. St Lawrence (Hawaii) After about 15 years off from mowing lawns, moved into a house and decided to take the chore on again and didn't want the hassle with gas so did some research and opted for the Earthwise corded electric. Very happy with the choice. Plenty of power for my Bermuda lawn and it's so easy to start ... no gas smell, fumes or hassle. It took me exactly three mows to get the hang of the cord and now it's no big deal. The first one, however, was a little tricky to figure out. Haven't used the mulch or side discharge, just the bag and it works great. Nice thing is it's quite a bit less noisy than a gas machine ... big plus. So far so good. I've used it about 6 times so I can't comment on durability yet, but in terms of quality, it seems like a well built machine.
